About Using Certain Browsers, Particularly Netscape 6.2 on a Macintosh
(published in the January 10, 2003 edition of Research News Online)
Faculty and staff occasionally call the EGMS helpline to report having trouble using EGMS with a particular browser or a particular browser and operating system combination. Most reported problems pertain to printing EGMS documents. However, faculty and staff who use Netscape 6.2 on a Macintosh platform (9.x or 10.x) have reported problems with review and approval of EGMS forms (such as the Proposal Routing Form or the Report of External Professional Activities). For this reason, Macintosh users are encouraged to use a browser other than Netscape 6.2 when approving EGMS forms. A recommended alternative is to use the Internet Explorer browser that comes installed on newer Macintosh computers to review and approve EGMS forms.
The next issue of Research News Online will include more information about EGMS browser compatibility.
As a reminder, faculty and staff who encounter problems with EGMS functionality should contact the EGMS Technical Helpline at 612.624.1600 or at egms@boombox.micro.umn.edu for assistance.
